Eco-Friendly
Hardwood - Look for the Green Leaf!
At PlatformBedsOnline.com our goal is to provide you with platform
beds that are good for you and for Mother Earth. This bed is constructed of
solid eco-friendly hardwood from Rubber Trees. Using these trees is both economical
and good for the Earth. Here’s why:
After 30 years,
rubber trees that are tapped for latex begin to slow their latex production.
To increase output, latex farmers remove these old trees and plant new seedlings.
In the past, felled rubber trees were either burnt on the spot or used as fuel
for locomotive engines, brick firing or latex curing. The wood is now used in
the manufacturing of high-end platform beds as well as other furniture types.
Valued for its dense grain, stability, attractive color and acceptance of different
finishes rubber trees make excellent furniture. It is also prized as an “environmentally
friendly” wood, since it makes use of trees that have been cut down at
the end of their latex-producing life cycle and are always replaced with new
seedlings for the next harvest.

Five Step Finishing
Process
The beauty is certainly in the extra care taken to finish this
platform bed which features a five step finishing process.
(1) After a careful
sanding, a wipe on sealer is applied to the wood.
(2) Once
dried a tinted sealer is applied to blend the grain and color of the wood.
(3) Next
comes extra fine sanding to prepare for the first base color coat.
(4) After
another round of fine sanding, the second base color coat is applied.
(5) The final
step is an extra fine sanding and then finishing coat is applied.
The result is a long lasting and durable finish that will last for years. Shown to the right is a cutaway of our finishing process that highlights to aforementioned finishing process.

This platform
bed is made with an innovative hook and pin system that creates a strong, long
lasting connection between the headboard and footboard. Two metal pins are embedded
within the head and footboards at two positions allowing you to choose from
two bed heights. Set the bed high for use with bed storage drawers or trundle
bed or set it low for a modern low profile look or when using a box spring.
Most economical platform beds utilize screws or even nails to fasten the rails to the foot and headboard. Both screws and nails will loosen over time and will eventually strip out completely. This advanced hook and pin hardware system guarantees your bed will outlast the competition.
